Driven insane...
This morning I opened my eyes in Georgia and will be closing them in Texas...
Upon contemplation of this 12 hour journey my only issue was doing it alone again...
There are a few positives about this though...no one minds you sing off key or how loud, burping loud and proud is acceptable and bathroom breaks are as often as you want. Basically no JUDGEMENT.
For the first time ever I literally threw things in a suitcase this morning, there was not any neat organized folding or suitcase structure at all. kinda awesome ;)
Driving into and through 5 states in one day can be interesting and exhausting without company..there is no one to "slug bug" or "your team" with.
I left Georgia dressed for cold and arrived in Texas sweating and using the air conditioning. There was beauty in each state and things I have seen on each drive through them that did not surprise me. The music on the radio also changed from state to state, country, Sunday church services and tejano to classic current pop. I found out that it is possible to "move like Jagger" while driving and to sound just like Adele at 80 miles an hour.
I stopped twice for gas and to get something to eat, one of these was about 10 hours in to the trip... I went to a drive through somewhere in Louisiana. The young lady that gave me my food complimented me on my hair, she said it was black and flippy! Is that a compliment? At that hour ill take what ever..
Somewhere about 100 miles outside of Dallas something happened to my radio or my mind..
As I listened to the weekly countdown that included Jody Watley,The Pet shop boys and George Michael I wondered if my drive had made me lose my mind. Casey Kasem came across my speakers as if it was 1988 and I sang out loud as if it was ...
I was driving into a lightening storm and a light rain... had I entered a time warp when I entered Texas?
For a brief time I thought about what I would do if it really was 25 years ago...
all the things I would invent and become rich from...
started college with a younger mind...
go find the boy in North Carolina that I now know as a man...
I did not want to change the radio station until I called my brother to confirm the year and tell him I was close to his house. Thank god because I was losing it after 12 hours on the road alone. Well I made it safe and sound after my long day on the road to my brothers house..
If you are ever 100 miles outside of Dallas tune to 106.3 FM listen, reminisce and know that all things are as they should be today.
The bottom line is..when driving alone or with a car full of people sing loud, slug bug and pee as often as anyone wants!
